IS IT HOMORRHOIDS?? Anal Bleeding for atleast 9 months...?

My Fiance has had some Anal Bleeding for some time now.. It started about 8 or 9 months ago.. he has seen a Dr..in the ER.. he doesnt have health ins..so ER was only Option.. It Startd just bleeding During Bowel movement and Now it sometimes bleeds during the day while he works..followed by some white mucas.. The ER Dr.said that there were NO Hemorrhoids that he could feel from exam .. internal and external.. He suggested a Colonoscopy and we called to pay out of pocket and it was almost $1000.00 up front before they would do it.. Now he is still bleeding 5 months later and is completley freaked out.. anyone know of any major signs of hemorrhoids.. his job doesnt offer ins.. and he cant pay out of pocket..
