Dear, the busy, or attention body, strengthening the movement. Usually do for exercise? Running, basketball, football, badminton, golf...
THE final precious days of the off-season for Braith Anasta, before the torture begins, will be filled with nerves like he has never experienced. Different from the nerves before two grand finals, different from State of Origins and Test matches.
Anasta, the Sydney Roosters captain, will tee off for a hit of golf this morning, which is nothing special for the average NRL player at this time of the year.
Only that Anasta will do so with Craig Parry and Scott Laycock, two of Australia's best golfers, in the NSW PGA Championship at Wollongong. No rugby league player has done similarly before returning to pre-season training on Monday.
''I might have two days off or no days off,'' Anasta said. ''We'll see what happens.''
He is hoping for the latter. No days off would mean he has played through to Sunday, and made the cut. That, more than anything else, is the goal for Anasta. ''It'd be a miracle, for me to put four rounds together, around a course like this,'' he said.
He looks across and eyes Steven Bowditch. ''I was watching him last week in the PGA Tour,'' he said. ''It freaks me out. This guy, he shot 19-under. My best
round's six-under. I've got five-under once. I've shot a couple of good rounds my whole life, but to do it for four rounds in a row … I'm not even near that. If I made the cut, it'd be a dream.''
A public relations exercise this - largely - may be, but Anasta is still a very good golfer. ''It's not like I'm an absolute hacker.'' he said.
As a teenager, he was only just being beaten by now top Australian talents James Nitties, Aron Price and Ewan Porter. Gary Barter, a renowned golf coach, said to a 15-year-old Anasta that he had one of the best swings he had seen. He now plays  off plus-one even though his profession now calls for a good swing to be cited rather than lauded.
''It's totally different,'' said Anasta. ''With the footy, I know what to expect. Even in big games, I know what they're going to be like, cheap golf clubs I know the intensity.
''With the golf, I've never been in this situation before.''
For a man who has played Test matches, he sees this, rather, as simply a test; of his own character and ability to do something outside the comfort zone. He denied, however, that it was a trial for a career as a professional once he retires from the NRL.
''I really can't say that I've thought of turning professional at all,'' he said. ''People have said that just because of this. For me, it's more a test of where I'm at, to give me experience under pressure, and test my own character. I could bomb out and just go, 'I'm nowhere near where I need to be' … I could play all right and go, 'you know what, if I worked on my game more and really took it seriously, I could be competitive'.
''But it'll be a good test, there's no doubt about that.''
Parry can see the positives for Anasta as well as the sport here.
''Getting another person from another code, a celebrity in his own right, a fantastic footballer, State of Origin player, I think it's great,'' he said.
At the end of it, though, Anasta realises that  personal satisfaction will be the best result.
''I've got nothing really to lose or to gain by it,'' he said. ''It's more the whole experience.''
Hope these golf news will bring you help. Wish the life is happy!
